Film35Lab

Privacy Policy

Effective date: June 21, 2025  ·  Last updated: June 21, 2025
Film35Lab: Turn Photos Into Film ("Film35Lab", "we", "our", or "the app") is a photography app that applies analog film simulations to your photos entirely on your device. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights — in plain language.

1. Summary

Film35Lab processes all photos locally on your device. Your photos are never uploaded to our servers, never stored in the cloud by us, and never shared with third parties. We do not create accounts, track your identity, or sell your data.

The app does not require an account to use. Premium features are unlocked via a one-time in-app purchase processed entirely by Google Play.

2. Data We Collect

Film35Lab collects the minimum data necessary to function. The table below covers everything.

Data type Purpose Stored where Shared?
Photos you open in the app Apply film presets in real time Your device only — never uploaded No
Photos you save / export Write edited image to your gallery Your device only No
App preferences (last preset, favorites) Remember your settings between sessions Local app storage (SharedPreferences) No
Purchase receipt (one-time or in-app) Verify and unlock premium features Handled entirely by Google Play — we receive only a purchase token No
Crash reports (if enabled by device) Fix bugs and improve stability Google Play Console (anonymised) Only with Google per their policy

3. Android Permissions

Film35Lab requests only the permissions required to perform photo editing. Each permission is used solely for the purpose described.

Permission Why it is needed
READ_MEDIA_IMAGES
READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE
Let you select a photo from your gallery to edit. Required on Android 12 and below.
WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE Save the edited photo back to your gallery. Only required on Android 9 and below.
VIBRATE Provide haptic feedback when an adjustment slider crosses its centre point.
BILLING Process one-time purchase and in-app purchases through Google Play Billing.

We do not request access to your camera, microphone, contacts, location, or any other sensor or personal data source.

4. Your Photos

Photo processing in Film35Lab happens 100% on-device using Android's ColorMatrix and graphics APIs. No image or pixel data is transmitted over the network at any time.

When you export an edited photo, it is written to your device's media store using the MediaStore API. The file is stored in your gallery under a "Film35Lab" album and is subject to your device's own backup and sharing settings (e.g. Google Photos backup), which are outside our control.

We do not retain any copy of your photos.

5. In-App Purchases

Film35Lab offers premium features through Google Play's in-app billing system. Purchases may include:

All payment processing is handled exclusively by Google Play. We do not receive, store, or process your payment card details. We receive only a non-reversible purchase token from Google to verify that a purchase was completed.

For questions about refunds, please refer to Google Play's refund policy.

6. Third-Party Services

Film35Lab uses the following platform services, each governed by its own privacy policy:

Service Purpose Their privacy policy
Google Play Billing Process in-app purchases policies.google.com/privacy
Google Play Console (crash reporting) Anonymised crash and ANR reports to help us fix bugs policies.google.com/privacy

We do not integrate any advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs, social login, or marketing trackers.

7. Data Retention

App preferences and favorites are stored locally on your device and are automatically deleted when you uninstall the app.

Purchase tokens are retained only as long as necessary to validate your premium access. They are not associated with any personally identifiable information on our end.

Crash reports received through Google Play Console are retained according to Google's own retention schedule (typically 90 days).

8. Children's Privacy

Film35Lab is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. Because the app does not collect personal data from any user, there is no mechanism through which a child's personal data could be collected.

If you believe your child has submitted personal information through this app, please contact us using the details below and we will take steps to address the situation promptly.

9. Your Rights

Because Film35Lab does not collect personal data from you, there is in practice no personal data for us to provide, correct, or delete on our end. However, you have the following controls:

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), UK, or California, you may have additional rights under GDPR, UK GDPR, or CCPA respectively. As we do not process personal data, these rights are not applicable in practice — but you may contact us if you have questions.

10. Security

Since photo processing is fully on-device and we do not transmit or store your photos or personal data on external servers, the primary security layer is your device's own security (lock screen, encryption, Google Play Protect).

We keep the app updated to address any security vulnerabilities in the code we control and recommend keeping your Android OS and apps up to date.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will notify you via an in-app notice or a note in the app's Play Store listing update.

We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.

12. Contact Us
