SpeedLab35 ("the App", "we", "our") is a vehicle acceleration measurement application for Android developed and published by the individual developer identified in the Google Play Store listing. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, how it is used, and what rights you have. Please read it carefully before using the App.
1. Information We Collect and Why
All data processing occurs locally on your device unless explicitly stated otherwise.
1.1 Location Data (GPS)
ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION
The App uses your device's GPS receiver to measure vehicle speed, heading, altitude, and satellite signal quality in real time. This data is used solely to operate the acceleration timer and to render the telemetry overlay on your recorded video.
- Location data is processed in memory only during an active recording session.
- Derived values (speed, elapsed time, distance) are embedded into the output video file saved on your device.
- Raw GPS coordinates are never stored, transmitted, or logged to any file or server.
1.2 Camera
CAMERA
The App accesses your device's rear camera to record video during a measurement run.
The recorded video file is saved to your device's external storage under
Movies/SpeedLab35 and is accessible through your Gallery app.
Video is not uploaded anywhere.
1.3 Microphone (Optional)
RECORD_AUDIO
Audio recording is an optional feature that can be enabled or disabled in Settings. When enabled, the microphone captures ambient sound alongside the video. Audio data is written only to the local video file on your device and is never transmitted externally.
1.4 Motion Sensors (Accelerometer)
The App reads the device's linear accelerometer sensor at up to 50 Hz during a recording session to calculate G-force values. This data exists only in memory and is discarded when the session ends. Derived peak-G values are embedded in the output video overlay.
1.5 App Preferences (Local Storage)
The App stores the following items in Android SharedPreferences on your device:
- Safety acknowledgement flag
- Preferred speed unit (km/h or mph)
- Last used speed range
- Audio recording preference
- Pro unlock status
- Daily run counter and reset date (for the free-tier usage gate)
- Bonus run balance from promotional codes
This data never leaves your device and is stored solely to preserve your preferences between sessions.

3. In-App Purchases and Billing
SpeedLab35 offers a one-time purchase ("Pro Unlock") that permanently removes all usage limits. This purchase is processed entirely by Google Play Billing. We do not handle, see, or store your payment card details or billing address.
Google Play may collect and process purchase-related information in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy. The only information the App receives from Google Play Billing is a boolean confirmation that the purchase is valid (entitlement status). We do not receive your name, email address, or payment method.
The Pro Unlock status is stored locally on your device in SharedPreferences and tied to your Google Play account for restoration purposes via Google Play's standard entitlement verification.
4. Third-Party Services
The App integrates the following third-party SDK:
- Google Play Billing Library — used to process the one-time Pro Unlock purchase. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
- Google Play In-App Updates API — used to deliver app updates seamlessly. No personal data is transmitted beyond what Google Play normally collects when checking for app updates.
The App does not include analytics SDKs, advertising SDKs, crash reporting services, or any other third-party data collection libraries.
5. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell, trade, rent, or otherwise transfer your information to third parties. We may disclose information only in the following exceptional circumstances:
- To comply with applicable law, regulation, or a valid legal process (e.g., a court order).
- To protect the rights, property, or safety of users or the public.
6. Data Retention and Deletion
Because we do not collect or store personal data on any server, there is no server-side data to delete. All data the App generates is stored on your device:
-
Video files — stored in
Movies/SpeedLab35. You can delete them at any time through your Gallery or file manager. - App preferences — cleared automatically when you uninstall the App, or manually via Android Settings → Apps → SpeedLab35 → Clear Data.
7. Children's Privacy
SpeedLab35 is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The App involves motor vehicle operation and is intended for adult users only. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App, please contact us so we can address it.
8. Security
Because all data processing occurs on-device and no personal data is transmitted to external servers, the primary security boundary is your device itself. We recommend keeping your device updated with the latest Android security patches and using device-level security (screen lock, encryption) to protect locally stored video files.
9. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights regarding personal data, including access, correction, deletion, and objection to processing. Since we do not hold personal data on any server, these rights are exercised directly on your device (see Section 6). If you have questions or requests, please contact us using the information below.
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or California, the following additional rights may apply to you under GDPR, UK GDPR, or CCPA respectively. As the App does not transfer personal data outside your device, most processing under these regulations does not arise. Nevertheless, you may contact us with any data-related inquiry.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where required by law, notify you through a prominent notice in the App or on the Google Play Store listing. Continued use of the App after changes become effective constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
11. Contact Us
If you have questions, concerns, or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or the App's data practices, please contact us via the email address listed on the SpeedLab35 page in the Google Play Store.
